URLs, UGA/Athens Style
While reading about the UGA Pharmacy school scandal today, I couldn’t help but notice the URL of the Red and Black’s story:

media.www.redandblack.com, huh? Because the Red and Black is independent, I really can’t say, “Only UGA would come up with a URL that dumb,” so instead I’ll settle for: Only an Athens website would come up with a URL that dumb. (It appears that only some of their articles are on media.www.redandblack.com; others are just on www.redandblack.com.)
Yes, I graduated from Georgia Tech, and yes, I am a nerd to rag on them for something like this.

Oh, that is great! (yes, I too graduated from college.www.gatech.edu). That really goes to show how little most people understand about the web and the domain name system. I can’t tell you how many times I have explained to people that “.com” is the domain intended for commercial sites, just as .edu is for education, .gov is for government, etc. I guess it makes sense that people also don’t understand what the “www” in a url means, or what a subdomain is. I suggest plastering http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subdomain on bumper stickers. nerdy snort
