Punchscan
Punchscan is a clever voting system that I think shows a lot of promise. The voter gets a receipt (which they can verify on-site and later, online), it’s auditable, and it prevents vote buying schemes. And it has to cost a fraction of what having a computer at every voting booth must cost. Wikipedia has a nice run-down of how it works, and there are some informative pages on the Punchscan site itself.

European countries have had a similar system for awhile, now, as my old roommate notes. In Finland, you walk away from the poll with a receipt with a serial number that can be later used to call in or check online and confirm that your vote is as you cast.
Pushcan, in its simplicity, is really awesome. Love it.
