Five-in-One: The Consolidated Blog Entry

I’ve had five blog entries cooking in TextMate for a couple weeks now, and seeing as how I’m not making much progress on wrapping them up (perhaps the fragments will appear in my upcoming 1128 Outtakes book), I’ll just consolidate them into this one entry:

  1. I finally watched The Office Christmas Special, and it was great. The first half was so-so, but the second half was surprisingly fulfilling. I’d say more about how much I enjoyed certain portions of it, but then I’d be spoiling it for you.
  2. After this year, we are not going back to Dragon*Con. For people who have been doing it for 10 or so years now, they seem to fail at the most basic logistical matters. Example: We pre-registered a year ago, yet when we arrived at pre-registration we had to wait 40 minutes while they printed our badges. How do you not have enough badges available (on Saturday morning) for people who pre-registered? It was, however, cool to see Tory from Mythbusters, as well as the obnoxiously-hammy George Lowe (Dad from The Brak Show, Spaceghost) and the seemingly softspoken, friendly C. Martin Croker (Zorak). Oh, and to the guy who runs Whose Line Is It Anyway on the British Comedy track: quit. It’s painfully obvious that you are burnt out.
  3. Morgan Spurlock’s Super Size Me is excellent, and better than you might think. Go watch it.
  4. We went bicycling on the Silver Comet with Mike. Jessica and I started off on the tandem, with Mike solo, but the tandem seats were very hard, and so Mike let Jessica take the cushy seat. That means Mike and I rode the tandem together. He’s not bad on the back end.
  5. That night we went on a 4 hour full-moon night sail up at Lake Lanier. One of the most beautiful sailing experiences I’ve had, and the weather was nicely breezy. We were nearly run over by a 200 proof rented houseboat, and at the end of the evening we ran aground (30 yards from the shore). Both were interesting, to say the least, but we escaped unscathed.
  6. AP article: “Media Ownership Study Ordered Destroyed” [by FCC]. Sigh.
  7. We went to Ray’s open house and played pinball for about 4 hours on Sunday. It was awesome.
  8. We saw The Flaming Lips last Wednesday. They were freakin’ awesome.
