Concert Budget Crisis

I guess this is a good thing, but, holy cow — will whoever is responsible for this stop bringing shows I want to see to Atlanta! Today I read that Sufjan Stevens is coming to the Fox in September for a pretty reasonable $25.00 per seat.

Thus far we have tickets to: (Yes, as a former WREK General Manager I find some of these highly embarrassing.)

  • August 2, Fiona Apple
  • August 29, Chris Isaak
  • September 12, American Idols Live! (I am not responsible for this decision)
  • September 13, The Flaming Lips
  • And presumably: September 20, Sufjan Stevens

I would have liked to have added Ryan Adams (July 29) and Elvis Costello (July 17), but… freakin’ A. We have to save some money for pinball!

Sadly, none of these shows are at my favorite venue, the Variety Playhouse. Am I just not tuned in to truly good music anymore (don’t answer that — you know who you are), or is the Variety’s booking playing to a different audience these days?

To whom it may concern: I am still willing to buy tickets to see Aimee Mann, Clem Snide, Kid Koala, or even a talk by David Sedaris. Just… you know… schedule something. Here. Or in Athens. Thank you.
