Sirkis & Kirn: Rim to River

A huge congratulations to our friends Glenn Sirkis and Jill Kirn, who have just completed an incredible hike in the Grand Canyon, hiking down the South Kaibab Trail to Phantom Ranch, and then back up via Bright Angel. It took a few days from start to finish, but the Grand Canyon is the kind of place where taking your time is a good thing. (We’re talking about close to 20 miles total, with over 8,000 total feet of elevation change. These figures are from memory.)

They reported 109 degrees at Indian Gardens, and 90 degrees in their tent at night. Compared to that, I was hiking in a winter wonderland when I did it two years ago, in April.

Glenn and Jill are two of the most adventurous people I know. They might respond to that by saying that I run with a tame crowd, but this is an accomplishment that can’t be understated: to set a goal a few years out, condition for it, and achieve it is amazing.
