A Texan & His iPod
How can I not post about the clip of President Bush chatting with Britt Hume about his iPod? Sky News has the video (via iLounge). How great is that? I’m always fascinated to see the personal side of public figures.
Now, take a moment to imagine President Bush bopping around the White House listening to The Archies singing “Sugar Sugar” on his iPod, mouthing and half-singing the words: “Awwww, sugar sugar… you are my candy girl… and you got me wanting you.” Laura gets off the phone with one of the first twins and they dance the rest of the song together in the hall. He spins her out as Don McLean comes on, “A long, long time ago… I can still remember, how that music used to make me smile…” Ah, romance!
Some of you are smiling at this notion, and others are probably gagging. Hah!

Joe, my friend of 18 years: Every time you comment I’m torn between moderating your asshole comments away so that others can enjoy my blog in peace, and letting them remain so that everybody can learn more about you.

Ah, Bush tends to be a hot button for almost everyone, in one direction or the other. I probably would have made a similar comment, honestly. You either adore the man and his policy or your hate him with fire. Mention “George Bush” and you’ll pull those strings, regardless of context.
Ah, anyways, I find it interesting that people are surprised that media figures have such mundane facets. Hey, look, the queen listens to music on an iPod just like mine! This made international news, but I have no idea why. Why does this surprise anyone? Was everyone under the assumption that the media elite use something else when listening to music on the go? Maybe people thought the queen has a traveling band that follows her, playing on request? Is it interesting because it makes her more human, more like us, more like someone we can relate to? News update: The Queen of England also uses a toilet much like her subjects do. Mind you, it is a very special toilet, but that is for another time…
