Happy Birthday, Blog!

Seems fairly unbelievable to me, but this blog started life with a post one year ago yesterday entitled “Sailing Excursion: Sunday August 15, 2004” in which I recounted a sailing trip with Robert and Nichole (who have since become engaged and then married). The Mike Seigle joke (which still appears in conversation) came three days later, and then Mike (Nessen)’s departure in December. We’ve mulled over serious topics, about my state of mind on dating (and more), and less serious items like missing arms and lopped off appendages. The blog was nearly internet famous for a few days, with thousands of people downloading video of Joe singing “We can make it if we try.” I’ve even written about becoming visually infatuated with a girl at a concert I went to with Jess, and am now actually dating Jess, something which has only barely been referenced. (Love life, except for lack thereof, is generally not blog fodder.)

I’ve written blog entries from my sofa at home, from my parents’ place in the mountains of Jasper, from an internet cafe in Wyoming, and, uh, a few from work, too. There have been technical challenges along the way, starting off at eHostDepot.com, who just yesterday charged my credit card even though I had auto-renew off and had instructed them three days prior to cancel my account, and then moving to TextDrive, a host that hasn’t been quite as wonderful as I would have hoped, but their new datacenter indicates better days to come. The blogging software that makes this site tick, WordPress, has been wonderful all along the way.

So after some 200 posts over the past year, here’s to another year of posts and both thoughtful and bizarre comments (you know who you are). Thank you to all of you for stopping by to check for something new week after week; as much of a pleasure as it is to just write and publish, it’s a privilege to be able to share this site with you.
