Cone Conservancy in Action

Cone in Chair A funny thing happened today. When I came into my office this morning, a small, filthy traffic cone was seated on my chair, holding a ransom-style note: “Save me — I heard you can help.” (Photo credit: Chap)

This all started with my involvement in the Atlanta Cone Conservancy (publicity photo, t-shirts) a few weeks ago. I signed on at the encouragement of a friend, and really found the whole experience incredibly rewarding. It’s wonderful to help cones in need — and there are so many of them — but I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t getting something back. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: these cones are strong. Strong cones.

People at work have been very supportive of my efforts, and so I guess it was only a matter of time until a cone appeared on my doorstep (or chair), asking for help. The cone and I have been working together today, it sitting on my desk quietly as I type and fiddle with video equipment. As noted above, this cone is badly in need of a bath, but I want to understand where it has been before I try to give it a brighter future. (I don’t know whether it’s a boy or a girl; I respect its privacy.)

Thank you to whomever let this cone into my office; it brightened up a rather dim morning for me.
