1128 Makes Make

Well, the Make blog, anyway. In a post early Wednesday morning my post on the CVS camcorder (at the moment it’s #3 in the Google results for those two words) was linked to, quoting my description of the technical aspects of the video. I found this out when, this morning, I visited my web stats page on a whim and discovered that my site transferred 1.76 gigabytes of data on Wednesday. (!!!)

Some 4,846 people have downloaded the 1/2 megabyte sample video from the camcorder I posted (which features Joe singing a bar of “Just the Two of Us” before panning across to show the snowy mountaintop we’re about to ski down. Interestingly only 3,636 have actually been to the page. It’s also amusing that Make decided to borrow the image of the camcorder that I used in that post, meaning that probably thousands more have seen a very blurry and small view out of my office window. According to Urchin’s click tracking, about two dozen of the visitors actually visited another part of the site after viewing the video. I’m not sure what that means.

Traffic died down sharply on Thursday, so I don’t expect to get a “bandwidth exceeded” notice. Still, I find it somewhat embarrassing that, at what may be the peak of my blog’s fame, I had just made a post about a bad internet dating experience, a silly discussion of one-armed girls in photographs, and just this morning a particularly gushy account of seeing a pretty girl. Nice.

This beats my page ending up on The Al Franken Show on Air America. Damn, that was stupid.
