Where Was This Guy?
Symantec CEO John Thompson could have stiff competition on his hands with Microsoft’s new, free anti-spyware. From a News.com article:
“I don’t plan to go to the Justice Department and whine about Microsoft’s monopoly,” Thompson said. “I’d rather fight Microsoft in the marketplace because I’m sure we’ll whip them.”
What a great attitude. I’m not sure that he’s right - as long as Microsoft does a good job of keeping their spyware definitions up-to-date, how could somebody else make something worth buying? If they bundle it with Norton AV it might make for a nice extra bullet item - but where was this guy and this attitude 6, 8 years ago when Netscape was sitting around sobbing about IE? Real Networks (shudder) about WMP? I love the spirit in his statement. Ask not what your country can do for you. My company will win because we have the best product.

Allow me to quote a famous man by the name of Lord Helmet:
“Now you see that Evil will always triumph because Good is dumb.”
