We Don’t Suck. Yes You Do.
From Wired:
“The basic difference between us and what you mostly hear is that we don’t suck,” Jones explains. “I’m being objective about this - most other radio sucks now.”
Jones in this story is Steve Jones, Sex Pistols’ guitarist, moonlighting as host of Jonesy’s Jukebox, broadcast on Indie 103 in Los Angeles. While writing this entry - hoping to sing the praises of this allegedly cool station - I’ve brought up their webcast. It’s not Jones’ show, but so far I’m not hearing jack indie about this. It’s been solid commercials for the 3 or 4 minutes since I tuned in… oh, here’s a song… 8 minutes later: Soundgarden’s Spoonman. Now more commercials. Now Beck’s New Polution. Indiehuh? S’cuse me, but this is bullshit. As far as I’m concerned, this station sucks.
Perhaps I’ve just caught them while one of the new kids is running the show, playing all the great 90’s stuff he never hears anymore. (hah) I myself used to sneak in a Led Zeppelin or Allman Brothers tune once and a while during my first year of shifts at WREK. Somebody probably responded by turned off their radio in disgust - not edgy enough! - just like I did a moment ago. For that, I apologize.
Yes, would-be commenters, I realize plenty of people in history have turned off the radio in disgust after hearing in-format music on WREK. Believe me, I know.
