Happy Birthday, Blog!

As of this post 1128 is three months old. Hooray! I started this site refusing to refer to it as a blog, a word I detested. It still makes me twitch, but I can at least allow myself to use it. When I set up shop here and made my first post my goal was two posts per week. In the corner of my mind I imagined I’d keep that up for three or four weeks, then lose interest in this project like I have others.

Yet here we are, three months later, and going stronger than ever. I continue to grow more and more interested in the “cottage technology” that weaves through the blog community. From my point of view this is where some of the coolest open source work is being done. People are making plugins to solve problems and sharing it with others in the community. It’s like some cozy little utopian civilization where money is nigh meaningless.

I’ve changed a lot over these three months, too. There have been two combination splurges and religious conversions: 1) a digital camera, thinking that my five (5) fine readers might enjoy nice color photographs on a frequency that only a digital camera could deliver. 2) a freakin’ Apple PowerBook, which I adore, even (particularly?) after 15 years on a PC.

More important than those, however, is how the blog itself has changed me. It’s probably the most effective creative outlet I’ve ever had. I like to write, and writing stories about my mundane adventures has proved to be a lot of fun. So I’d like to say “Thank you” to you for reading and giving this space some sense of value. It’s one of the best feelings in the world to hear someone say, “I read your entry about … !” Thanks, everybody.
