Tempted by the Fruit of Another

After more than fifteen years as a PC user (though the family did own an Apple ][gs for a time), I have purchased an Apple PowerBook G4. Microsoft, I’m still a share-holder, but I have to say that after a half a day on the PowerBook I’m pretty much sold. Though I’ve felt lost at times (navigating to network shares, installing programs [do I just click on that thing?], uninstalling programs [do I just delete that one thing?], and those weird Option and Open Apple keys), I’m quickly getting the hang of it.

The greatest and most notable thing to me thus far is the cohesiveness of the user experience. Everything feels like it belongs together, and particularly adjusting the wireless settings (which would probably have a manufacturer-dependant interface on a PC) has been a very smooth experience.

Earlier this evening I took the nerddom to dizzying heights by sitting down at the living room coffee table: microwave dinner to my left, PowerBook to my right. Ahhhh. This is what I bought it for. … I’m back upstairs as I write this entry. My desktop PC looks kindof useless with the PowerBook sitting in front of it, the PC keyboard pushed back beneath the monitor. I’m sure I can find something to do with it… stay tuned.
