Weekend Update

I’m sure the neighbors are pleased - instead of taking steps to get rid of that fallen tree I elected to hang out with Kristen, Morris, Nichole, Joe, and Mike this weekend. Today (Sunday) I surrendered after the last guest had left and parked myself on the sofa to watch THX1138, on loan from Joe. After 20 minutes in a nap was in order. (I did finish it later, and actually watched it again with the commentary track… I eagerly await George Lucas’ return to thought-provoking filmmaking. Anyway.)

Kristen and I started Saturday off with a trip to Stone Mountain. After reducing the bee population by one and finishing lunch on the Arkansas Patio, we went down to the laser lawn to toss the baseball and be serenaded by a bunch of Sir Mix-A-Lot fans (e.g., teenage girls/”cheerleaders”?) who performed encore presentations of a medley of “Baby Got Back” and Billy Ray Cyrus’ (I had to look that up) “Achy Breaky Heart”.

Wandering down to check out the Stone Mountain Railway, we took the liberty of placing a dime on the tracks, and it turns out that even trains pulling tourists around are pretty good at flattening coinage. We also tried out humans on the track.

Then we had a look at the car museum at Stone Mountain. They have more player pianos and automagical one-man-band contraptions than cars, actually, and for the bargain price of $0.50 we got to hear a tune from one. It’s quite a spectacle, and highly recommended. There’s also one of the fifty-one 1948 Tucker cars in the museum, along with crank-operated flip card movies, jukeboxes, bicycles and, yes, even U.S. currency origami. Also memorable was the button-operated dancing and singing marionette. It must have been a modernized one, though - it kept yelping, “Lean back!”

After a classy dinner at Folks, we got gussied up and headed out to Loca Luna - Joe, Mike, Morris, Nichole, Kristen, and myself. After about 10 minutes it was determined that certain members of our party had an appetite for some bootie dancin’, and so some of us made tracks for Vision. I can’t really speak for the others too much (get your own blogs!) but I had a rockin’ good time, and only one drink! (two if you count one at Loca Luna) Kristen kicks ass out on the tiles, and I’m counting the days until next Sunday’s “Hair Ball” at The Compound. Joe wins the “most cigarettes bummed off of girls” award - no small feat.

Sunday morning Kristen, Mike, Joe, and I had breakfast at The Original Pancake House. We said goodbye to Joe and then met up with Morris, Nichole and Ernie (who was spinning at Halo Friday night - props!) at our local Lucky Shoals Park, where we burned the rest of our energy tossing the baseball and taking swings at a softball.

Whew. I’m tired.
