Ivan Stops By

Ivan was in the area yesterday, which made for an interesting evening, to say the least. It had been rainy all day, and getting pretty rough by the time I left work (5pm). The drive home was an adventure - I’ve never seen so much freaking water in the streets. Mike, the roommate, called to let me know that a) the power was out and b) a tree was out. Sure enough, both of these things turned out to be true. The tree (pictured above) was probably the biggest in my yard, and it had fallen back against the fence that lines the back of the yard.

We spent the night sitting around mostly, doing a lot of talking on the telephone, the house lit by oil lamps. At 9:30 I invited Mike to play Scrabble; he declined. At 5:30am I was awoken by some strange sounds as the power went back on - props to Georgia Power, I guess. It’s only Tucker. (hah)

I am open to ideas on how to handle the tree. Hollowing it out and making a crew boat out of two of the trunks might make for a good winter project. If you are skilled at boatmaking, contact me and we’ll work something out.

As far as the tree: winch that sucker up and re-seat it.
